Seit 2020 ist sie Vorstandsmitglied des Tricky Women\/Tricky Realities-Festivals in Wien.\r\n\r\nIlse Haider verbindet in ihren Werken fotografische Bilder mit skulpturalen Techniken. Die Bilder, die sie f\u00fcr ihre Skulpturen verwendet, haben bereits eine mediale \u00d6ffentlichkeit und Vergangenheit. Durch ihre k\u00fcnstlerische \u00dcbersetzung werden diese Fotos ihrer eigenen Geschichtlichkeit entrissen und in einen aktuellen Gegenwartsbezug integriert. Die Objekte verdanken sich einem komplexen Entstehungsvorgang: Die fraktal gebrochenen Bilder werden einem Dekonstruktionsprozess unterzogen, sie werden gleichsam zerschnitten, auf Raster, St\u00e4be oder Peddigrohr projiziert und zu einer neuen Struktur zusammengesetzt. With this motif, she directly refers to the realization of the school building, for which, among other things, two 80-year-old ash trees had to be felled on the site.<\/p>\n<p>The technique used here is typical for Ilse Haider yet unique in its dimensions. A kind of three-dimensional photography, in which a photographic image is applied to a raised surface, was employed here to create the illusion of spatial presence. Ilse Haider normally uses this procedure to portray images of icons of pop culture and art history on coated wooden panels 1 x 2 meters in size.<\/p>\n<p>For this project, the artist decided to portray two mature and fully grown ash trees: the felled trees had to be transported to a hall, which had been converted into a darkroom, and lifted onto light-sensitive paper under red light by numerous helpers. It was then exposed and developed in a specially constructed production line. In a digital reproduction, the images were finally printed in equal parts on weather-resistant plates and protruding slats. When viewed from the front, the result is a single image that has a three-dimensional effect due to the depth of the various image planes.<\/p>\n<p>The photographic technique used is a photogram.[1] The blue color and the monochrome richness of detail in the depiction are a reference to the cyanotypes [2] of Anna Atkins [3], who used this process to produce the first botanical photographs in the mid-1800s. The reference to the scientific-preservation process is significant in several respects. The portraits of the felled ash trees represent humanity\u2019s threat to nature. In addition, ash is a threatened tree species in Europe, and it is believed that the majority of its population will fall victim to a fungal disease in the next few years.<\/p>\n<p>The depictions of the trees in the courtyards of the elementary school can also be understood as an allusion to the institution of school itself, the abstracted bringing in and communicating of the world. The enormously complex process of producing the photograms can also be seen as significant: the project could only be implemented through a great joint effort; similar to the efforts that still have to be made to restore the ecological balance.<\/p>\n<p>The image of a tree also allows for many interpretations; its branches and majestic size can symbolize the social structure of school, growth and even life itself. Furthermore, the beauty of each photograph lies in its ability to perceive the object depicted for what it is: a tree.<\/p>\n<p>[1] A photogram is a photograph created without a camera, in which objects are placed directly on light-sensitive material and exposed.<br \/>\n[2] A cyanotype is one of the first photographic processes based on iron rather than silver, which produces the typical blue color effect. The exposure takes place directly on the paper and requires sun- or UV light.<br \/>\n[3]\u00a0 The British natural scientist Anna Atkins became known for her (photographic) images of ferns and other plants using cyanotypes. href=\"https:\/\/www.ilsehaider.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ilse Haiders<\/a> Kunst am Bau-Projekt &#8220;Zwei Eschen&#8221; zeigt die lebensgro\u00dfen fotografischen Darstellungen zweier Eschen, realisiert auf zwei jeweils 10 x 6 Meter gro\u00dfen W\u00e4nden der Innenh\u00f6fe der Grundschule Karlsfeld. Mit dem Motiv nimmt sie direkt Bezug auf die Realisierung des Schulbaus, f\u00fcr die unter anderem zwei ca. 80 Jahre alte Eschen auf dem Gel\u00e4nde gef\u00e4llt werden mussten.<\/p>\n<p>Die verwendete Technik ist typisch f\u00fcr Ilse Haider und zugleich einzigartig in ihrer Dimension: eine Art dreidimensionale Fotografie, bei der eine fotografische Darstellung auf eine erhabene Oberfl\u00e4che appliziert wird und dadurch die Illusion der r\u00e4umlichen Pr\u00e4senz des Dargestellten hervorruft. Normalerweise portraitiert Ilse Haider mit dieser Technik Ikonen der Popkultur und Kunstgeschichte, auf etwa 1 x 2 Meter gro\u00dfen beschichteten Holzelementen.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00fcr das vorliegende Projekt entschied sich die K\u00fcnstlerin zwei B\u00e4ume zu portraitieren, in lebensgro\u00dfer Darstellung zweier ausgewachsener Exemplare. Diese Idee hat etwas spielerisch-Absurdes, ihre Umsetzung aber stellte ein fast schon gigantomanisches Experiment dar: F\u00fcr die Realisierung mussten die gef\u00e4llten B\u00e4ume in eine zur Dunkelkammer umfunktionierten Halle transportiert und bei Rotlicht durch zahlreiche Helfer:innen auf lichtempfindliches Papier gehoben werden, das anschlie\u00dfend belichtet und in einer eigens aufgebauten Produktionsstra\u00dfe entwickelt wurde. In einer digitalen Reproduktion wurden die Abbildungen schlie\u00dflich zu gleichen Teilen auf wetterbest\u00e4ndige Platten und hervorspringende Lamellen gedruckt. Bei Frontalansicht ergibt sich dadurch ein vollst\u00e4ndiges Bild, das durch die Tiefe der verschiedenen Bildebenen einen dreidimensionalen Effekt hat.<\/p>\n<p>Bei der verwendeten Foto-Technik handelt es sich um ein Fotogramm[1]; die blaue Farbe und der monochrome Detailreichtum der Darstellung sind aber ein Verweis auf die Cyanotypien[2] der Anna Atkins[3], die in der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts mit diesem Verfahren die ersten botanischen Lichtbilder hergestellt hat. Die Referenz an das wissenschaftlich-konservierende Verfahren ist bedeutsam in mehrerlei Hinsicht: die Portraits der gef\u00e4llten Eschen stehen f\u00fcr die Bedrohung der Natur durch den Menschen; insbesondere, weil es sich bei der Esche um eine in Europa besonders bedrohte Baumart handelt, von der vermutet wird, dass der Gro\u00dfteil ihres Bestands in den n\u00e4chsten Jahren einer Pilzerkrankung zum Opfer fallen wird.<\/p>\n<p>Die Darstellungen der B\u00e4ume in den Innenh\u00f6fen der Grundschule k\u00f6nnen aber auch als Anspielung auf die Institution Schule an sich, das abstrahierte Hereinholen und Vermitteln der Welt verstanden werden. Auch der enorm aufw\u00e4ndige Prozess der Herstellung der Fotogramme kann als bedeutsam gesehen werden: nur in einem gro\u00dfen gemeinsamen Kraftakt konnte das Projekt umgesetzt werden; \u00e4hnlich wie die Anstrengungen, die noch unternommen werden m\u00fcssen, um das \u00f6kologische Gleichgewicht wiederherzustellen.<\/p>\n<p>Das Bild eines Baums l\u00e4sst zweifelsohne viele Interpretationen zu, mit seinen Verzweigungen und in seiner schieren Gr\u00f6\u00dfe kann es als Sinnbild f\u00fcr das soziale Gebilde einer Schule, f\u00fcr Wachstum oder das Leben an sich stehen, nicht zuletzt liegt die Sch\u00f6nheit jeder Fotografie jedoch darin, zu erm\u00f6glichen, das abgebildete Objekt als das wahrzunehmen, was es ist: ein Baum.<\/p>\n<p>[1] Ein Fotogramm ist eine Fotografie ohne Kamera, bei der Gegenst\u00e4nde direkt auf lichtempfindliches Material gelegt und belichtet werden.<br \/>\n[2] Eine Cyanotypie ist eines der ersten fotografischen Verfahren, das auf Eisen beruht und nicht auf Silber, wodurch sich der typische blaue Farbeffekt ergibt. Die Belichtung erfolgt direkt am Papier und ben\u00f6tigt Sonnenlicht oder UV-Licht.<br \/>\n[3] Die britische Naturwissenschaftlerin Anna Atkins wurde durch (fotografische) Abbildungen von Farnen und andere Pflanzen mittels Cyanotypien bekannt. Sie gilt durch diese fr\u00fche Anwendung als erste Fotografin.<\/p>\n","werk_txt_context":"<p>Das Kunstwerk \u201eZwei Eschen\u201c von Ilse Haider wurde im Rahmen eines Kunst am Bau-Wettbewerbs f\u00fcr den Neubau der 6-z\u00fcgigen Verbandsgrundschule in Karlsfeld im Landkreis Dachau durch die Kunstkommission zur Realisierung empfohlen. Die Fertigstellung der Schule erfolgte im Juni 2024, der Schulbetrieb wurde zum Schuljahresbeginn 2024\/25 aufgenommen.
