\u201eDie Welt ist klein\u201c, sagen Erwachsene gern, die in der gro\u00dfen Stadt zuf\u00e4llig alte Bekannte treffen. Das ist richtig und falsch zugleich: Vor allem sind wir heute rund um den Globus stark vernetzt. Das kann man auch gut auf der Weltwand sehen, die der K\u00fcnstler Hubert Lobnig f\u00fcr den Neubau der Grundschule am Ravensburger Ring 37 mit Unterst\u00fctzung aller Sch\u00fcler*innen geschaffen hat. Der K\u00fcnstler begreift die Schule als Ort des Austausches, dessen kulturelle Vielfalt eine Chance ist, hierarchiefrei voneinander zu lernen.<\/p>\n
Den Wert dieses Gef\u00fcges wollte Lobnig sichtbar werden lassen: Die Weltwand macht anschaulich, dass diese Schulfamilie 39 Nationalit\u00e4ten umfasst. In einer Reihe von Workshops lie\u00df er Kinder aller Klassenstufen ihr Wissen \u00fcber die Herkunftsl\u00e4nder ihrer Familien aufzeichnen. Ihre Malereien und Inschriften integrierte er in die Weltkarte, die auf die Fassadenplatten gedruckt wurde. Das Ergebnis ist eine ganz besondere Kartographie: Man erkennt nicht nur Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten wie den Pariser Eiffelturm, die Kaaba in Mekka, den indischen Taj Mahal.<\/p>\n
Dar\u00fcber hinaus ist diese Ansicht der Erde voller Zeichen, die nicht auf Anhieb entzifferbar sind, sondern in individuelle kindliche Erfahrungswelten f\u00fchren. Da findet man in Kanada ein Holzf\u00e4llerhemd, in Nigeria ein Fu\u00dfballfeld unter der prallen Sonne, in Sibirien Andrej und seine Tiere. Und eine der Zeichnungen zeigt eine Stufenpyramide, die an den Turmbau zu Babel erinnert. F\u00fcr den K\u00fcnstler ist jener nicht Symbol der Sprachverwirrung, sondern Sinnbild interkultureller Kommunikation. Darum wird die Weltwand auf der Text-Ebene noch durch ein LED Laufband erg\u00e4nzt: Es zeigt \u00fcber dem Eingangsportal mehrsprachig das Wort \u201eWillkommen\u201c an. Auch die Website der Schule wurde neu gestaltet. So verwandelt sich die weltumspannende Erz\u00e4hlung der Migration an der Schule am Ravensburger Ring in ein gro\u00df geschriebenes Miteinander.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a small world,\u201d adults like to say when they happen to run in to old acquaintances in a big city. That\u2019s both right and wrong at the same time. Especially today, we are heavily interconnected all around the world. This is easy to see on the Worldwall that the Austrian artist Hubert Lobnig created (with help from the pupils) for the new wing of the elementary school at Ravensburger Ring 37.<\/p>\n
The artist considers the school a place for exchanges whose cultural diversity offers an opportunity to learn from each other without a hierarchy. Lobnig wanted to visualize this social fabric, so the Worldwall shows us that these school families represent thirty-nine nationalities. In a series of workshops, he allowed children in all grades to record their knowledge about the countries their families hail from. He integrated their paintings and writings into the world map, which was printed on the fa\u00e7ade.<\/p>\n
The result is a very special map: yes, you recognize such sights as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Ka\u2019aba in Mecca, and the Taj Mahal in India, but this view of the earth is also full of signs that cannot be deciphered at first glance. Instead, they lead to their own individual worlds of childhood experiences. You\u2019ll find a logger\u2019s flannel shirt in Canada, a football pitch beneath the hot Nigerian sun, or Andrei and his animals in Siberia. And one of the drawings is of a step pyramid that recalls the Tower of Babel. For the artist, the latter does not symbolize linguistic confusion, but is instead a symbol of intercultural communication. That is why there is a written supplement to the Worldwall in the form of an LED sign set above the entrance gate, with the word \u201cwelcome\u201d running across it in several languages. The school\u2019s website was also redesigned.
