Am 18. Oktober 2003 wird der U-Bahnhof Georg-Brauchle-Ring mit der raumgreifenden Wandarbeit Die gro\u00dfe Reise von Franz Ackermann er\u00f6ffnet. Der Bahnhof steht am Anfang einer neuen Generation von U-Bahnh\u00f6fen, bei denen aktuelle Kunst eine pr\u00e4gende Rolle spielen wird. Im Rahmen von QUIVID, dem Kunst am Bau Programm der Stadt M\u00fcnchen, wurden ab dem Jahre 2000 von der Hauptabteilung U-Bahnbau des Baureferates unter Beteiligung der M\u00fcnchner Kunstkommission drei internationale Kunstwettbewerbe f\u00fcr die Bahnh\u00f6fe Georg-Brauchle-Ring (Realisierung: Franz Ackermann), Olympia-Einkaufszentrum (Realisierung: Olaf Metzel) und Olympiapark Nord (Realisierung: Rudolf Herz) ausgelobt. F\u00fcr den U-Bahnhof Fr\u00f6ttmaning, der die Allianz Arena erschlie\u00dfen wird, erging ein Direktauftrag an den Wiener K\u00fcnstler Peter Kogler zur Kooperation mit den Architekten Bohn+Bohn.<\/p>\n
Der U-Bahnhof Georg-Brauchle-Ring bindet den Stadtteil Moosach durch die Verl\u00e4ngerung der U-Bahn-Linie 1 an das U-Bahnnetz an. Eine Verl\u00e4ngerung bis zum Olympia-Einkaufszentrum erfolgt im Jahre 2004. Die Lage und Entwicklung des U-Bahnhofes Georg-Brauchle-Ring ist bedingt durch das im Bau befindliche Hochhausprojekt Uptown Munich des Architekten Christoph Ingenhoven, sowie den Bau und die Planung weiterer gro\u00dfer B\u00fcro- und Verwaltungsbauten in diesem Umfeld. Weiterhin besteht eine r\u00e4umliche N\u00e4he und Sichtbeziehung zum Olympiapark. Daher ist an dieser Station eine hohe Nutzerfrequenz und internationales Publikum zu erwarten.<\/p>\n
Der K\u00fcnstler Franz Ackermann, der an der M\u00fcnchner und Hamburger Kunst-akademie studierte, ist heute selber Professor am ZKM in Karlsruhe und in vielen internationalen Ausstellungen vertreten. Bekannt wurde er durch seine expansiven Bildwelten und raumgreifenden Installationen. Inhaltlich befasst er sich h\u00e4ufig mit den Sehns\u00fcchten und W\u00fcnschen der Menschen und erforscht, wie diese durch Werbung und Kulturindustrie beeinflusst und gepr\u00e4gt werden. Insbesondere den Tourismus, eine der gewinntr\u00e4chtigsten Einnahmequellen der westlichen Welt, stellt er in seinen Arbeiten an den Pranger.<\/p>\n
“Tourists Are Money” sang die britische Punk-Band Sex Pistols 1977 in ihrem Song “God Save the Queen”. Zwanzig Jahre sp\u00e4ter griff Franz Ackermann den Satz anl\u00e4sslich der Ausstellung “Urban Living” auf und schrieb ihn mit schwarzen Lettern an die Wand des Ausstellungsraums. On October 18, 2003, the Georg Brauchle Ring subway station, with its enormous wall installation The Great Journey by Franz Ackermann, was opened. The station is one of a new generation of subway stations in which contemporary art will play an influential role. Within the framework of QUIVID, the City of Munich\u2019s public art program, three international art competitions for the stations Georg-Brauchle-Ring (realization: Franz Ackermann), Olympia Shopping Center (realization: Olaf Metzel) and Olympiapark Nord (realization: Rudolf Herz) were launched in 2000 by the Hauptabteilung U-Bahnbau des Baureferates (the Building Department\u2019s Department of Underground Construction) in collaboration with the Munich Art Commission. As an extension of subway line 1, the Georg Brauchle Ring station connects the city\u2019s Moosach quarter [LMW1]\u00a0to the subway system. A second extension to the Olympia Shopping Center was completed in 2004. The location and development of the Georg Brauchle Ring station was determined by the architect Christoph Ingenhoven\u2019s high-rise project Uptown Munich, as well as the construction and planning of other larger office and administration buildings in this area. Furthermore, the station is close to the Olympiapark has a visual relationship to it. Therefore, high user frequency, including international passengers, is expected.<\/p>\n

The artist Franz Ackermann, who studied at the art academies in Munich and Hamburg, is himself a professor at the ZKM in Karlsruhe, and his work has been seen in many exhibitions around the world. In particular, he pillories tourism\u2014one of the most profitable sources of income in the Western world\u2014in his work. \u201cTourists are money\u201d sang the British punk rock band The Sex Pistols in 1977 in their song \u201cGod Save the Queen.\u201d Twenty years later Franz Ackermann picked up on this phrase for his show Urban Living, writing it in black letters on the wall of the exhibition space. Since then, ways of occupying sites have comprised his artistic theme. He reflects upon how tourism can turn into colonialism.<\/p>\n
