Sie befragt die materiellen Eigenschaften von Objekten, ihren Umgebungen und Anwendungskontexten und ist daran interessiert, herauszuarbeiten, wie ein Objekt funktioniert und welchen Gebrauchsbestimmungen es unterliegt. Welche Verhaltensweisen und K\u00f6rperhaltungen erzeugt seine Benutzung, welche kulturellen Konnotationen wohnen seinen Verarbeitungsweisen, Oberfl\u00e4chen und Texturen inne? Bircken gibt sich den \u00e4sthetischen und kulturellen Verstrickungen der Dinge des Alltags hin \u2013 ohne ihnen eine These oder ein Statement aufzuerlegen, folgt sie den in ihnen konzentrierten Spannungen, die sie offenlegt und dekonstruiert. Ihr Vorgehen ist dabei prozessbasiertes Experiment, ergebnisoffene Untersuchung, mitunter intuitive Bricolage. \u00dcber die Jahre etablierte sie ein differenziertes bildhauerisches Vokabular, in dem sich unterschiedliche Elemente und Ausdrucksformen in neuen Konstellationen wiederholen und transformieren.\r\n\r\nAlexandra Bircken lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und D\u00fcsseldorf. Ihre Arbeiten wurden in zahlreichen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen gezeigt, darunter in der Fondation Pernod Ricard, Paris (2022), im Museum Brandhorst, M\u00fcnchen (2021), im KINDL - Centre for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2021), in der Secession, Wien (2019), bei der 58. Durch ihre k\u00fcnstlerische \u00dcbersetzung werden diese Fotos ihrer eigenen Geschichtlichkeit entrissen und in einen aktuellen Gegenwartsbezug integriert. Die Objekte verdanken sich einem komplexen Entstehungsvorgang: Die fraktal gebrochenen Bilder werden einem Dekonstruktionsprozess unterzogen, sie werden gleichsam zerschnitten, auf Raster, St\u00e4be oder Peddigrohr projiziert und zu einer neuen Struktur zusammengesetzt. Ab 2015 lebte er zwischen Amsterdam und M\u00fcnchen, seit 2019 in Finning. In seinen Gem\u00e4lden, Keramiken und raumgreifenden Installationen ist der K\u00f6rper ein zentrales Thema. Er hinterfragt dabei Konzepte von Individualit\u00e4t und Identit\u00e4t, sowie die Ver\u00e4nderung und Bedeutung des K\u00f6rpers, als Ort kultischen, gesellschaftlichen und architektonischen Handelns.\r\n\r\nSeine Arbeiten waren in zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen Gruppen- und Einzelausstellungen zu sehen wie z.B. im Haus der Kunst M\u00fcnchen, in den Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden, im Palazzo delle Esposizioni Rom, in der Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, im CAPC Museum f\u00fcr zeitgen\u00f6ssische Kunst von Bordeaux, im Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen, im Kunstpalais Erlangen, im Kunstverein Hannover oder dem Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen.\r\n\r\n2014 erhielt er das USA Stipendium des Freistaates Bayern und war 2020\/2021 Rompreistr\u00e4ger und Stipendiat der Deutschen Akademie Villa Massimo in Rom. Die von dem Duo installierten Objekte oder eingeleiteten Situationen setzen jedoch Prozesse der Interaktion und des Dialoges fort, die in anderer Form das k\u00fcnstlerische Geschehen schon w\u00e4hrend ihrer Konzeption und Produktion bestimmt haben.
